Caseworker
CASEWORKER
Location: Houston, Texas
Reports To: District Director & Deputy Chief of Staff
About the Office
Congressman Christian Menefee represents Texas's 18th Congressional District, which includes much of North Houston and parts of Humble. We are looking for a talented, community-driven individual to help us do that work on the ground.
About This Role
The Office of Congressman Christian Menefee is looking for a compassionate, organized problem-solver to join our district team as a Caseworker. This role is at the heart of what a congressional office does for its constituents: helping real people navigate federal agencies and get the answers they deserve.
As a Caseworker, you will serve as a direct point of contact for constituents dealing with issues across federal agencies—from Social Security and Veterans Affairs to immigration and Medicare. You will manage an active caseload, advocate on behalf of residents, and work closely with our district and DC teams to make sure no constituent falls through the cracks.
This position is entirely based in Houston and reports to the District Director & Deputy Chief of Staff.
What You Will Do
Constituent Casework
- Serve as the primary liaison between constituents and federal agencies, advocating on their behalf to resolve individual concerns
- Manage an active caseload across assigned issue areas, including tracking progress and maintaining complete and accurate files
- Respond to constituent correspondence and meet with residents in person, by phone, and in writing to provide updates and guidance
- Screen and assess incoming casework to determine the appropriate course of action, including referrals to other agencies or offices when needed
- Monitor casework trends and provide regular updates to the District Director and Member on patterns and emerging issues
- Write clear, accurate responses to constituent inquiries related to active and closed cases
Community and Office Support
- Attend community meetings and public events to represent the office and support constituent outreach
- Work closely with District Representatives and Field staff to ensure constituents are connected to the right resources
- Assist with identifying casework issues that may require legislative action or Congressional oversight and flagging them appropriately
- Contribute to a team culture that is responsive, empathetic, and committed to outstanding service for every resident of TX-18
What We Are Looking For
Required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex federal processes clearly to constituents
- Genuine commitment to constituent service: patient, empathetic, and motivated to help people find solutions
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple active cases with competing deadlines
- Comfort working with technology, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and constituent management systems
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Familiarity with Houston and the communities that make up the 18th Congressional District
Preferred
- Prior experience in casework, constituent services, social services, or a related field
- Experience working for a federal, state, or local government office
- Familiarity with federal agencies such as Social Security Administration, VA, USCIS, or CMS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
