Congressman Christian D. Menefee Statement on House Republican Leadership Blocking TSA Funding
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Christian D. Menefee (TX-18) released the following statement as House Republican leadership continues to block a vote on TSA funding.
"The dysfunction from Republican leadership is on full display. Last night, Democrats successfully got Senate Republicans on board to support a funding deal that is basically the same as what we have been pushing for weeks: fund TSA immediately and leave the question of ICE funding for another day. And now House Republicans are standing in the way, refusing to call a vote on a deal already approved by Senate Republicans, and letting TSA workers continue to go without pay for no good reason.
Republicans control the federal government right now: the White House, the House, and the Senate. They can end this now. House Republicans need to call a vote on the Senate deal so that we can fund TSA immediately.
I have Bush IAH in my district. I was out there this week. I talked to travelers stuck in hours-long lines and workers who have been showing up without a paycheck for more than 40 days. They are exhausted, frustrated, and they deserve better than this.
House Republicans need to call the vote. Pass the Senate deal. Pay TSA workers and give them their back pay. There is no excuse left."
