About Congressman Christian D. Menefee (TX-18)

Congressman Christian D. Menefee represents Texas’s 18th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. The district encompasses downtown Houston and its adjacent communities, stretching west and north to George Bush Intercontinental Airport. 

Christian grew up in Houston’s public schools, the son of two United States Coast Guard veterans. He was the first in his family to graduate from college. That experience, growing up in a working family that depended on what government could deliver, is why he fights so hard to make sure government actually works for people. 

Before coming to Congress, Christian made history as the youngest person and first Black attorney ever elected Harris County Attorney, the chief civil law officer for the largest county in Texas. He didn’t just hold the title. He built the office into one of the most effective public interest legal operations in the state, winning legal fights that most people said couldn’t be won, against polluters, bad actors, and overreaching government officials. That meant taking on the Trump administration to restore millions in health care funding, challenging the Texas Governor to protect voting rights, and defeating the Texas Attorney General's attempt to make sure legally cast ballots went uncounted. 

Before entering public office, Christian practiced commercial litigation, representing clients in complex federal cases and investigations. He also dedicated significant time to pro bono work, including advising the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and assisting immigrant families caught up in the “Muslim ban” during President Trump’s first term. 

In Congress, Christian serves on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. He is focused on securing federal resources for Houston and Harris County, defending voting rights, fighting for environmental justice in communities that have been overlooked for too long, and making sure the federal government delivers for working families. 

Christian lives in Houston with his wife Kaitlyn, an attorney, their sons Gabriel and Malcolm, and their rescue dogs Howie and Kennedy.
